Partners
The National Trails Act was established in 1968 with the vision of managing the trails through partnerships. In Alaska, the principal non-profit partner is the Iditarod Historic Trail Alliance. We work with the Congressionally-designated Trail Administrator at the Bureau of Land Management. BLM actually directly manages only a small section of the Iditarod Trail, so partnerships with other governmental, private, and tribal land managers throughout the state are critical to the Trail's protection.
